چکیده

Aerobic granular sludge (AGS) comprises an aggregation of microbial cells in a tridimensional matrix, which is able to remove carbon, nitrogen and phosphorous as well other pollutants single bioreactor under the same operational conditions. During past decades, feasibility implementing AGS wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) for treating sewage using fundamentally sequential batch reactors (SBRs) has been studied. However, technology SBRs several disadvantages. For instance, it can present certain drawbacks high flow rates; furthermore, quantity retained biomass limited by volume exchange. Therefore, development continuous (CFRs) come be regarded more competitive option. This why numerous investigations have undertaken recent years search different designs CFR systems that would enable effective urban industrial wastewater, keeping stability biomass. despite these efforts, satisfactory results yet achieved. Consequently, remains necessary carry out new technical approaches provide efficient AGS-CFR systems. In particular, imperative develop both retain efficiently treat obviously with low construction, maintenance exploitation cost. this review, we collect most information on technological aimed at establishing systems, making possible their upscaling real plant We discuss advantages disadvantages proposals suggest future trends application aerobic Accordingly, analyze significant biological implications innovative technology.

This advanced nutrient removal process can reduce footprint up to 75% and energy up to 50% when compared to conventional activated sludge systems. One of the defining characteristics of the granule is rapid settling which in turn allows for an increase in the biomass concentration. The granules are comprised of true biomass and do not require carriers. The layered microbial community that forms...

Dynamic Modeling of Granular Sludge in UASB Reactors

n this paper, a mathematical model has been derived to predict the granulation time of anaerobic sludge in UASB reactors. In the proposed model, some physical, chemical and biological parameters affecting the granulation phenomena have been considered. To validate the model, 12 pilot-scale experiments in 4 UASB reactors are carried out and the results are discussed here. The reactors are starte...

Aerobic granular sludge

In recent years, a significant part of research on wastewater treatment has focussed on development of compact systems. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) can be designed compact when biomass is maintained in the system without the use of conventional settling tanks as in flocculated activated sludge systems. Examples are developments in the field of Membrane BioReactors, Biological Aerated Fil...

Nitrogen Removal over Nitrite by Aeration Control in Aerobic Granular Sludge Sequencing Batch Reactors

This study investigated the potential of aeration control for the achievement of N-removal over nitrite with aerobic granular sludge in sequencing batch reactors. N-removal over nitrite requires less COD, which is particularly interesting if COD is the limiting parameter for nutrient removal. The nutrient removal performances for COD, N and P have been analyzed as well as the concentration of n...
